Frequently Asked Questions

What COVID-19 precautions are in place?

WCPA ensembles are following local, state, and national guidance to contain the spread of COVID-19. In addition, at this time, all members of WCTQ and WCGC are REQUIRED to be vaccinated for COVID-19 to participate in any singing or social events with the chorus.

When and where do you rehearse?

Both choruses will rehearse for the spring concert from late January through March 2023.

Rehearsal Schedules:
Windy City Treble Quire: Mondays, 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm
Windy City Gay Chorus: Wednesdays, 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm

How often do you perform?

We perform three regular concerts per year: Holiday, Spring, and Pride. Each concert has one performance on Saturday evening. The week preceding regular concerts is “Tech Week” when dress rehearsals and run-throughs of the concert program are held. You will be notified of any special rehearsal locations, times, and updates through announcements at rehearsals, chorus newsletters, and our members-only website.

In addition to our regular concert season, each chorus may participate in outreach performances in the Chicago area and beyond throughout the year.

How do I prepare for an audition?

You will be run through some vocal warmups in order to check your range, tonal memory, and vocal placement. We will also ask you to prepare a piece of a particular song ahead of time, which we will email to you the week prior to the audition. We know that an audition can be nerve-wracking. So make sure to take a deep breath in and relax!

Open rehearsals

Prior to auditioning, candidates may attend an open rehearsal, to experience Windy City Gay Chorus or Windy City Treble Quire in advance. These are actual rehearsals as the Chorus prepares for an upcoming concert. This will give you an idea of what to expect on a weekly basis if you become a member. Sign-ups for auditions are taken, or an actual audition may be held at the conclusion of each open rehearsal.
