• WINDY CITY PERFORMING ARTS •
Windy City Performing Arts, Inc. is the non-profit parent organization for Windy City Gay Chorus, UNISON: Windy City Lesbian & Gay Singers and the Windy City Slickers. Our mission is to foster lesbian and gay pride through musical excellence.
Founded in 1979, Windy City Gay Chorus is recognized nationally by composers and conductors as one of the finest male choruses in the country. UNISON: Windy City Lesbian and Gay Singers, now in its third year, is 45 members strong and is fast being recognized for its artistic excellence. Windy City Performing Arts has provided invaluable services to the Chicago metropolitan area. For the gay and lesbian community, the chorus provides positive public role models as well as offering important social occasions through its concerts and events. Many gay and lesbian individuals have commented on the importance of WCPA to their personal development – empowering their spirit and mind. For the general population, WCPA showcases the positive contributions gays and lesbians make to the community and encourages closer communication with lesbians and gays through the performing arts. In addition, WCPA provides an important service with its Partners in Performance program, through which the organization distributes tickets free of charge to persons with AIDS who could not otherwise attend its concerts. Members of Windy City Performing Arts are continually participating in support of local community celebrations and fund-raisers such as Halsted Street Market Days demonstrating a commitment to our community and a desire to reach an ever expanding audience.
• UNISON •
Now in its third season, UNISON is a group of women and men who sing together and whose musical purpose is one that will eventually challenge the traditional expectations that people have of choral music. UNISON made their debut at “Don We Now…XIV” in 1992 with 41 singing members, and sang their inaugural concert in April 1993 with recording artists Cris Williamson and Tret Fure as guests.
